Supporting survivors of institutional sexual abuse • Leadership development • Workplace mental health & resiliency training

The Resiliency Group was formed to support survivors of institutional sexual abuse, and institutional betrayal. We also provide workplace training for leadership development, mental health support, and resiliency.

These endeavors reflect founder, Kevin Braney’s evolution from a teenager who was sexually abused by three Syracuse, New York priests to an educator and advocate for people suffering from untreated trauma and mental illness.

Kevin’s personal experience as a trauma survivor and his leadership skills were critical in the aftermath of the March 2021 mass shooting at a Boulder, Colorado King Soopers grocery store. As a director of Boulder’s leading mental health agency, Mental Health Partners, Kevin led the crisis response team that provided immediate mental health assistance to King Soopers employees and their families.

Recognizing that recovering from life-threatening trauma often takes years, Kevin next focused on providing King Soopers with the tools needed to meet employees’ long-term needs which led to him forming the Resiliency Group to take this life-changing work beyond this tragedy and into the hands of organizations everywhere.

Trainings

The Resiliency Group provides training in three primary focus areas. Normal Reactions to Abnormal Circumstances: Individuals affected by a disaster or traumatic incident, whether survivors, witnesses, or responders are given the opportunity to explore the common, and normal mental health and physical responses that can develop from these experiences. QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention designed to teach anyone the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond. Mental Health in the Workplace: 1 in 4 US adults suffers from a diagnosable mental disorder in any given year. Employers need a new skill set to ensure they can effectively identify, engage, and appropriately respond when mental health needs appear in their colleagues.

Speaking

Resiliency Group Founder, Kevin Braney, is available to speak on topics such as Institutional Betrayal, Leading Mass Tragedy Response, Psychological First Aid, Post Traumatic Stress, Resiliency and Leadership, Servant Leadership, Suicide Prevention and Intervention, Workplace Mental Health and Wellness. Additionally, he has given highly engaged talks on:

A Firsthand Account: Supporting the Catholic Community Understand Clergy Sexual Abuse from the Survivor Perspective

Falling up: How I turned the worst day of my life into the most important and why I would do it all over again

Where are all the heroes? What I learned about leadership and resiliency from my experience overcoming Institutional Betrayal.

Legal Advocacy

Advocates are used across many arms of the legal system. Their function is to provide both emotional support and practical assistance to others navigating challenging processes and circumstances. More and more, law firms are using advocates to help their clients through the legal process. This is a win-win for the law firm as it frees up the attorneys to focus on the case at hand while the advocate tends to the personal and emotional needs of the client. The Resiliency Group, having vast experience in Psychological First Aid and Victim Advocacy can connect law firms with the vetted, trained advocates they need for their practice.

The Resiliency Scribble

What’s with the scribble? To us, it’s more than an icon. It’s our mission. It’s a symbol of moving forward through trauma. We all start somewhere, face adversity, and with help, come out stronger on the other side.
